Inclusive Education (Partial)
Within the framework of the UAE Inclusive Education Policy the Center regularly place some learners for brief periods in mainstream schools where they engage in activities with their peers. The Center organizes joint activities with the public schools, nurseries and Kindergarten Schools. This is done according to a plan which takes into account the needs, abilities and social skills of the students.
Therapeutic Horse Riding
Horse riding is not only about the great physical benefits. It is closely related to the emotional, social and mental health of the student. It creates a kind of synergy between the student and the horse which often results in a kind of relationship or even friendship. The horses are also used to help students with the establishment of a cooperation between the therapist the special education teacher and the horse keeper. Only trained horses are used.
Sensory stimulation is of great significance. Modern studies show that sensory stimulation is very useful for children who are suffering from autism (ASD) since they increase the child’s communication with the external world; increase attention and concentration; improve motor and visual coordination; improve linguistic communication; understand and respond to instructions and reduce hyperactivity
Sensory stimulants are scientifically used in the Center where we expose the child to learning experiences which he/she remembers for long. Sensory stimulants help to activate and stimulate the child senses.
Sand playing is considered one of the entertaining and relaxation activity which helps in the development of the child’s skills which provide fun and interest to him.
Through sand play, the child learns how to form modules and shapes and imitating them. It also helps with fine motor development and proper body movements of the child. Through play, the child learns concepts; names of shapes, sizes, motor- and visual coordination. Through sand play, linguistic skills can be developed as the child participate in conversation and discussions as he/she is carrying out the linguistic orders during playing. Social skills are being developed as the child participates with other individuals in waiting turns, cooperating with peers and following instructions. Sand Play is an energetic activity which stimulates his/her imagination.
Swimming and water games
Swimming and water games is an important activity for the owners, because they provide the opportunity to play as individually and in groups under supervision, where this contributes also on the development of physical health. The center has a swimming pool, one for adults and another for the young students we also provide Sauna, Massage and Moroccan silt sessions by specialists.
Department of Computer and Typing
This Department prepares the students in pre-occupational training. Students are taught and given skills on how to use tools and software programs. Students are encouraged to participate in computer-related competitions.
Studies confirm that there is a positive correlation between the development of the social and psychological skills of the child of special needs and the opportunity to care for a pet. In accordance with these studies, we have established a mini zoo which includes some pet animals such as tortoises, horses, birds, rabbits, peacocks, an ostrich, sheep, ducks etc.
The students feed and assist with the caring of these animals. In the beginning, it was extremely difficult because students were scared of the animals. Later, however, the students enjoyed the interactions with the animals. This most definitely contributed positively to the students` social and psychological progress.
Educational Outings, Picnics and Parties
There is no doubt that the training of students with special needs requires a lot of integrated activities. The educational outings and recreational Picnics are considered an important part of the training process because due to many reasons many students with disabilities do not get the chance to visit many places.
We have two kinds of outings namely:
Such as vegetable Market – Livestock Market – Factories, etc.
We have all kinds of picnics which are related to the program goals prepared for the students and which are appropriate for students in different age groups and similar intellectual abilities. We prepare well for the picnics and we document the lessons learned and experiences on these outings for later use.
The Center promotes an interest in agriculture. Students are encouraged to plant and to take care of the plants. These activities have a major impact on the personal, psychological and social well-being of the students.
Cycling improves the physical fitness of students and reduces tension and hyperactivity. Other advantages include losing weight and encouraging the spirit of competition among students through their participation in competitions and informal games.
Art is a useful form of training students of special needs. Students are trained on various artistic skills as well as discovering, developing and promoting artistic interests. Students are trained individually and in groups. The centre always endeavours to display the artistic abilities and talents of students through participating in various exhibitions and competitions in the UAE. Our students obtained advanced positions and were honoured on many occasions such as Sheikh Latifa`s Competition for Childhood Innovations and many others.
Drama is one of the important ways in which we can help disabled children to express their sensory and psychological emotion. With drama, they express their with society. Drama helps to build a child’s personality and it affirms his relationship with his friends, society, teachers and all staff who deal with the child.
Finally, drama is a chance for the child to show some of his talents. Performing in front of audiences boosts their confidence and they feel valued by society.
